This two-day course provides HQ staff with the technical capacity to manage safety and security in a humanitarian organization.
Please note the locations for each training: May 12-13: Ottawa June 22-23: Toronto *If there is insufficient registration, courses may be combined. We will attempt to accommodate the preferred date/location of the highest number of registrants. Why it’s important The people who manage the safety and security for your staff have a large responsibility to fill. It’s important that they are given the knowledge, skills and resources to ensure that the work that they do is in line with best practices in the humanitarian sector. Who it’s for Anyone on your team who has responsibilities for ensuring that safety and security management practices are in place, and followed, for your organization. What does it cover? This course provides staff with the technical capacity to manage safety and security in a humanitarian organization, from an HQ perspective. Topics covered include: Risk appetite – Risk assessments – Individual and Organizational Risk Profiles – Risk Mitigation Strategies – Safety and Security Plans – Contingency Planning – Travel Risk Management – Visitor Support – Managerial Responsibilities – Informed Consent – Trust, Influence and Credibility – Communication – Staff Training – Insurance – Working with Consultants NOTE: This course does NOT cover Critical Incident Management. This is covered in a separate day-long course, which is always scheduled for the day following the Safety and Security Management 101 workshop.
